Fresh water container (mizusashi) with a pattern consisting of irregular spots of iron oxide, which has been modeled after a toad's belly. The mizusashi is glazed on the inside only. On the exterior of the vessel you can see the raw buff clay with grains of sand and grit embedded. The rim curves toward the inside of the vessel where the lid is recessed. The lid looks like a lacquer one, but it has actually been made of ceramic. This mizusashi was first formed by coiling and then thrown on the potter's wheel. It is signed on the bottom. A box is made on specific request only.
