A "find" of mine, to be used as fresh water container (mizusashi) for the tea ceremony. It is actually an almost cylindrical lard pot with a molded rim (late 19th century, in excellent condition, watertight). It has been made of gray clay covered with a layer of thin salt glaze on the outside of the vessel. It is covered with a slip glaze on the inside. The mizusashi is topped by a ceramic lid covered with a glossy black glaze. The handle of the lid has been made of a stiffened sisal cord. The front (shomen) is easily identifiable by the number "4" incised into the body.
